CALHOUN COUNTY FAIR CATTLE RULES

Department- Cattle

 

*Market Steer

  • Animals must be 6 months old to 2 years by date of the show.

  • To be eligible to show, animals must be registered with the County Agent or FFA Advisor by May 15 of concurrent year.

  • Animals will be divided into classes based on weight.

  • Steers must be halter broke and led into the ring to be judged by the exhibitor only.

  • Market Steer Minimum weight – 1000 pounds

  • Prospect Steer Maximum weight – 999 pounds. (Not eligible for premium sale)

 

*Commercial Heifer (Crossbred Heifer)

  • Animals must be 6 months old to 2 years by the date of the show.

  • Animals must have health certificate and BANGS test.

  • To be eligible to show, animals must be registered with the County Agent or FFA Advisor by July 15 of concurrent year.

  • Animals will be divided into classes based on weight.

  • Crossbred heifers are defined as any female that is not purebred or registered.

  • Heifers must be halter broke and led into the ring to be judged by the exhibitor only.

  • Heifers will show as market animals and are allowed Sale eligibility two years only.

 

Bucket Calves

  • Exhibitors must be 2-9 years old.

  • Calf must be 12 months old or less.

  • An orphan or newborn calf, male or female, dairy, beef, crossbred, on bucket or bottle at some point in its life up to weaning. 

  • Calves will be shown on a halter.

  • Bucket Calves are not eligible for Junior Livestock Auction.
